According to a report from Lancet Respiratory Medicine, nearly half of hospitalised patients still have at least one symptom two years after infection.
While patients may improve their physical and mental health, but still tend to have poorer health and quality of life. The symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath and sleep insights.
“Our findings indicate that for a certain proportion of hospitalised Covid-19 survivors, while they may have cleared the initial infection, more than two years is needed to recover fully from Covid-19,” said Professor Bin Cao of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, China.
What are the research results?
According to a Chinese study, six months after the first onset of the disease, 68% of participants reported having at least one symptom of COVID. Two years after infection, symptom reports have dropped to 55%.
“Fatigue or muscle weakness was the most commonly reported symptom and decreased from 52% after six months to 30% after two years. Regardless of their initial illness severity, 89% of participants were back to their original jobs within two years.
