North Korea: North Korea reported six new deaths amid the COVID-19 wave, state media KCNA said on Tuesday, as the country’s military was mobilised to distribute medical supplies.
The state’s Emergency Epidemic Prevention Headquarters reported 269,510 more people with fever symptoms, bringing the total to 1,483,060, while the death toll rose to 56, KCNA said. They did not inform how many people have tested positive for COVID-19.
A day after leader Kim Jong Un ordered immediate deployment, “a powerful force” of the army’s medical corps was dispatched to improve the supply of drugs to Pyongyang’s capital, the epicentre of the country’s first sanctioned pandemic.
KCNA said the team’s mission aimed to ” mitigate the prevailing public health crisis over the capital Pyongyang”, describing it as critical to the ongoing anti-epidemic campaign.
