The Hong Kong Palace Museum, a local version of the Beijing Museum of the same name, will open its doors on July 2, 2022, displaying Chinese relics on display next to the Kowloon Coast.
The Hong Kong Palace Museum, located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, will feature nine galleries featuring paintings from the Qing dynasty, calligraphy, ceramics collections and more.
The Palace Museum’s launch comes nearly eight months after the opening of the M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District, a major infrastructure project in Kowloon that aims to create a “vibrant cultural quarter” for the city.
General admission adult tickets to the Hong Kong Palace Museum will cost HK$50, which includes access to seven of the nine galleries. HK$120 “Special Exhibition Ticket” includes all galleries.
Discounted tickets are available at half price for full-time students and age groups 60 or older.
However, admission will be free every Wednesday for the first year.
According to the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, the exhibitions will include 914 pieces from the Palace Museum in Beijing, its largest loan to a cultural institution outside mainland China. The museum will also display pieces borrowed from the Louvre Museum in Paris, described by the authority as “a testimony to the exchange of culture and knowledge between China and other countries”.
