Hundreds of youths protested at the Indore railway station and cancelled many trains on Friday against the Centre’s new military recruitment policy Agneepath.
The agitators entered the Laxmibai railway station, raised slogans against the new policy and pelted stones. A heavy police force has been deployed to disperse the protesters and control the situation.
According to official information, services of at least five to six trains were disrupted for more than three hours. Several protesters were detained, and security forces were deployed at nearby railway stations, including Ratlam, Shajapur and Ujjain.
On Friday, after panic spread in Gwalior, the agitation started here. There was an atmosphere of terror in the city for about three-four hours. Private and public properties were damaged, and tires were burnt on railway tracks.
Two FIRs – one with the railway police and the other at the local police station – have been registered. The youths who damaged properties during the protests in Gwalior are being identified.
As the protests spread in the state, leaders of the ruling BJP accused the opposition of “misleading” the people, resulting in a stir.
State Home Minister Narottam Mishra blamed MP Congress Kamal Nath for misleading the youth in the state. “Agneepath is a revolutionary step by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the armed forces. Kamal Nath’s message on social media (Twitter) has misled the youth, and they are protesting,” Mishra said on Thursday at the protest in Gwalior.
