Jordan’s King Abdullah II said on Friday he supports a military alliance in the Middle East similar to that of Western-led NATO. Speaking to CNBC, King Abdullah said that the charter of such an alliance should be very clear.
Close cooperation on the military front between Arab countries and Israel has been carried forward for many years by the US as a way to counter Iran and its deadly activity.
Recently, US lawmakers introduced a bill to Iran in the Senate and Congress to plan to integrate Middle East air defences.
And Israeli officials have said there is air defence cooperation with unnamed Arab countries and the US, which it claimed had previously thwarted Iranian attacks on the region.
US President Joe Biden is due to make his first visit to the Middle East next month, stopping in Saudi Arabia, the West Bank and Israel.
Good relations between Iran and the Arab countries and Israel are at the top of its agenda. Iran’s common threat with the Abrahamic Agreement signed under the Trump administration between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Israel have brought Arab countries and Israel closer in recent years.
A senior US official told reporters last week that some “unique” projects would be announced during Biden’s visit, including the naval task force and other infrastructure projects “being done across borders.”
