Indian Presidential Election Result 2022 Live Updates: The counting votes to elect the 15th President of India will begin at 11 am today at Parliament House, Delhi. Voting took place on 18 July in the Parliament House, and all state legislatures as 99% of the 4,796 MPs and MLAs cast their votes. The term of current President Ram Nath Kovind will end on July 24, and his successor will take oath on July 25. NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is pitted against joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
With several reports of cross-voting in favour of Murmu by opposition parties, including Congress and NCP MPs and his support by non-NDA parties like BJD, YSRCP and Shiv Sena, Murmu is comfortably in the race for Rashtrapati Bhavan. 64-year-old Murmu will become the first tribal president and the second woman to hold the post after Pratibha Patil.
Sinha, a Union Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s NDA-led government, said during the campaigning phase that the battle was between two ideologies, not between Murmu and him. On the voting day, he made a final appeal to the lawmakers. He asked them to use their conscience while asking whether they wanted a President to defend the country’s constitution or India’s Prime Minister.
