Mumbai: Indian state research body ICMR said it has isolated the monkeypox virus and is inviting vaccine manufacturers to consider making the shots after some cases of infection were reported in the country.
India reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox earlier this month.
Monkeypox, endemic to parts of Africa, is a viral disease that causes flu-like symptoms and skin lesions. Outbreaks of the disease have been reported in nearly 60 countries where monkeypox is not endemic, with confirmed cases crossing 10,500.
