The Kremlin said Thursday that no agreement has yet been reached on a possible prisoner swap involving jailed American basketball star Brittany Griner and Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. I am serving a sentence of 25 years.
CNN reported Wednesday that the White House had offered to free Bout, whose release was sought by Russia, in exchange for Griner and Paul Whelan, a US Marine Corps veteran jailed in Russia for espionage.
WNBC star Griner was arrested at Moscow airport on February 17 after cannabis-containing vape cartridges were found in his luggage. He has pleaded guilty to drug charges that constitute a ten-year prison term in Russia.
