Hurun Global Rich List includes Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), as the only Indian among the world’s top 10 billionaires.
The research platform Hurun, in coordination with real-estate group M3M’s report shows that the net worth of $82 billion held by Mukesh Ambani, had caused him to occupy the ninth rank globally, despite experiencing a 20% decline in wealth. Additionally, Ambani has retained the title of wealthiest Asian for the third consecutive year. Gautam Adani slipped to the second spot with a 35 per cent year-on-year decline in wealth, and his net worth stood at $53 billion. Hurun reports that Adani lost Rs 3,000 crore every week over the last year. China’s Zhong Shanshan surpassed Adani Group and became the second-richest Asian. In January, Adani’s wealth plunged by more than 60 per cent from his peak, following a report by US short-seller Hindenburg. Adani was briefly the world’s second richest person just before the report.
Indian billionaires in Hurun Global Rich List
The List ranks Cyrus Poonawalla of Serum Institute of India at the third position with a net worth of $27 billion, followed by Shiv Nadar and family with a net worth of $26 billion at the fourth position. Lakshmi Mittal secured the fifth position with a net worth of $20 billion.
Other Indian billionaires, such as SP Hinduja & family, Dilip Shanghvi & family, Radhakishan Damani & family, and Kumar Mangalam Birla & family, are followed by billionaire banker Uday Kotak at the tenth rank.
India boasts of 187 billionaires, with 16 new additions, and continues to be the third largest nation globally in terms of producing billionaires. The number of billionaires rises to 217 if Indian-origin billionaires are included.
According to the report, 24 Indian cities/towns “produced” 187 billionaires. India occupies the sixth rank in terms of the number of billionaires who have added $1 billion or more over the last year in the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List.
In the last 5 years, Indian billionaires included in the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List have added approximately $360 billion to their cumulative wealth, which is equivalent to the GDP of Hong Kong.
