Josh Hazlewood, the pace spearhead of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has revealed that he chose cricket over athletics because he could enjoy the success of his teammates even on a bad day. Hazlewood is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury and his IPL franchise anticipates that he will regain fitness by the fourth week of April.
During high school, Hazlewood had an interest in field events, particularly the javelin throw, but he eventually settled on cricket, which was his first passion. When asked why he chose cricket over javelin throw, the 32-year-old explained that cricket was a team sport, which he found more enjoyable than individual sports like athletics.
Hazlewood stated that the fact that there were more low days than high days in an individual sport like athletics convinced him to pursue a career in cricket. He said that playing with his teammates was lots of fun, unlike a solo career in athletics, which can be a bit lonely sometimes.
Hazlewood added that in individual sports, there are more low days than high days, making it difficult to sustain for a long period. In team events, it’s a 50-50 chance of having a good or bad day, and even if one has a bad day or week, their teammates can have a great week, and they can enjoy their success.
Hazlewood has learned over the years to enjoy everyone’s success in the team rather than just his own self.
