On the trendy surfing beaches of Ahangama, known for its cafes, galleries, restaurants and thriving surf scene, Mosvold Villa opened its doors to the wanderlusts recently. The property encompasses an ultra-luxe 16-bedroom, beachfront villa, by homegrown Sri Lankan chain, Mosvold Boutique Hotels. The hotel group indeed specialises in luxury boutique hospitality. Mosvold Villa is a design and experience-led boutique hotel, with curated decor and direct beach access.
The hotel stands different with its decor, reflecting Sri Lankan aesthetics, antique furniture and gorgeous artwork. Batik panels by legendary batik designer Sonali Dharmawardene adorn the main atrium of the villa. Guests can thereupon, dine at the restaurant facing the ocean or on the trendy rooftop bar overlooking Ahangama Bay, ideal for sundowners.
In addition to the deluxe double rooms, there is also a large two-bedroom family suite and a Founder’s Suite with its own private infinity pool. Guests can enjoy activities like surfing and bike excursions. Or on the other hand, simply unwind with the tea plantation experiences, wildlife safaris and other outdoor activities.
Mosvold Villa Art X Sustainability
Mosvold Villa has collaborated with Sri Lanka’s legendary batik artist and designer Sonali Dharmawardene. These specially commissioned batik panels and custom wall tapestries line the entrance of the hotel. Skilled Sri Lankan artisans have crafted the batik works, in detail. In addition, the bedspreads and upholstery designs of the space are an extension of the batik panelling.
Batik is an ancient fabric wax-resist dyeing tradition in Sri Lanka. Sonali Dharmawardene has been chiefly instrumental in working with artisans from local villages to preserve this art and showcase it to the world.
About Mosvold Boutique Hotels
Mosvold Boutique Hotels is a homegrown Sri Lankan chain, that specialises in ultra-luxe, design and experience-led properties on the island’s south coast. A truly east-meets-west collaboration, Mosvold is the brainchild of Norwegian philanthropist Kurt Mosvold and Sri Lankan hospitality entrepreneur Nilanka Martinus.
The first of their hotels, Mosvold Villa is situated in the trendy beachside town of Ahangama. It reopened in 2023 in a fresh, ultra-luxe avatar.
And then, along the same coast, tucked away in Balapitiya, Sundara by Mosvold is an 8-room design-centric villa, along a secluded beach.
